Race Entry
What does the entry fee include?
The entry fee is used towards the logistics of planning, managing and hosting the event, however our main aim is to donate to local charities. All finishers will receive a medal, water and ice lolly.
How do I know if my entry has worked?
You will receive a confirmation email from Active Training World confirming your registration; this can take up to 24 hours to arrive. If you do not receive this please email events@activetrainingworld.co.uk with your full name and date of birth.
Do I qualify for UKA Affiliated entry?
To qualify for UKA Affiliated entry, your running club must be recognised via the UKA Governing Body. We will ask you for your Competition Licence Number also known as your URN (Unique Registration Number) from your competition licence when registering.
When do entries close?
Entries will close at midnight on Thursday 5th June 2025. However, please note that some races did sell out before the closing date in previous years, so we recommend registering early.
Can I enter on the day of the event?
No, we do not accept entries on the day of the event.
If I am having trouble entering online what do I do?
Please email events@activetrainingworld.co.uk and a member of our team will be happy to help you.
Can I push a buggy in the 1.5 Mile Fun Run?
You can push a buggy around the 1.5 Mile Fun Run but please register the child individually as both adult and child must have a race number. You can place the child’s race number on the buggy if you prefer.
What will the payment show up as on my bank statement?
The registration fee will appear from Active Training World on your bank statement, not St Albans Half Marathon. Active Training World are the registration company we use to manage the registrations for the event.
Why have I been charged an admin fee from Active Training World?
Active Training World will charge a small administration fee for all payments. As a charity event we cannot afford to subsidise this cost for all participants.
Can I enter a friend?
Yes you can register and pay for a friend. You can complete both your registrations at once by adding multiple entries to your basket. You will be asked to sign the waiver on their behalf. You can also enter in different races.
How do I join my running club team?
When registering you will be given the option to select a running club.

What should I do if I lose my race number?
Please don’t worry, just come to the registration desk and we will issue you another.
Can I collect a race pack for my friend?
Yes, you are able to collect a race pack for friends and family. You need their full name, distance and post code.
Route Queries and Race Regulations
Are there maps of the routes?
Maps for each race can be viewed on the race page.
Are there toilets on the route?
Yes, there are toilets situated on the route.
Is the course suitable for a wheelchair?
Yes, the half marathon course is suitable for a wheelchair. We have a wheelchair race which will start 10 minutes before the half marathon race, so as to avoid collisions. Please be aware that the start and finish line are both in the park and hence are on grass. There are also hills and speed bumps on the route. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us on events@activetrainingworld.co.uk and we will be able to advise you.
Why is the walking half marathon not a race?
Due to the whole route not being closed to traffic, we're unable to make it an official race. The event is chip timed so participants can get an official time.
I don’t know whether to do the half marathon or walking half?
Walking events is strictly walking so suitable if you have no intention to run.
The running half marathon has a time limit of 3h 15mins so you could walk parts but you need to have the intention to jog a good percentage of it.
Are there time limits on finishing the races?
Yes, there are time limits for each race. They are as follows:
Half Marathon: 3 hours 15 minutes
Wheelchair Half Marathon: 3 hours 30 minutes
Walking Half Marathon: 5 hours
5k: 55 minutes
Fun Run: No limit
Can I take my dog?
Sorry, no dogs are allowed in any of the races.
How does the race start work for the Half Marathon?
This has been introduced to help prevent collisions and injuries at the start by people going quicker or slower than others. Race results are done by gun time; however your chip-time starts when you pass under the gantry and over the chip mats so don't worry if it takes a while to get through the start. Both your gun and chip time will appear in the results.
Are there pace makers?
Yes, there are pace makers for a selection of times.
Can I run in fancy dress?
Yes, we encourage you to! Fancy dress helps to make the race really fun for spectators, families and runners alike. There’s even a prize for the best fancy dress, so get your thinking caps on!
Can I wear headphones?
This only applies to the Half Marathon and 10K.
The wearing of headphones, or similar devices, (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single carriageway roads. Under UKA rules, you are allowed to wear bone-conducting headphones. We will be allowing the use of Bone Conduction headphones ONLY for the running half marathon.
Any runner seen using any other form of headphone will be disqualified. The Race Director has taken advice and in-line with current UKA rules and BARR recommendations on health and safety grounds when establishing our head phone policy. Please respect our rules, we don't have many!
Is the course fully marshalled?
Yes, we are known for our loyal, enthusiastic and encouraging marshals. We could not run the event without the continuous support from the local voluntary organisations that help us marshal the event.

Where can I park? And are they free?
There is no parking in Westminster Lodge Car Park. We advise runners/walkers to seek parking outside of Verulamium Park to avoid delays and traffic congestion. Details of these car parks, as well as a map can be found here.
Where is the nearest train station?
The nearest train station is St Albans City Train Station. Please note that St Albans City Train Station is a 15-20 minute walk from Verulamium Park. Taxis and buses will be in operation, but please add additional time to your journey when using these travel options.
What time can I collect my race pack on the event day?
Race number collection is available from 6:30am. Please make your way to the runner’s village and you will see clear sign to registration. If you are collecting race numbers we recommend you allow at least 45 minutes before your race starts.
Is there a pre-race warm up?
Yes, there will be a warm up led by an instructor on the stage before each race.
Will there be anywhere to store my bag during the race?
Yes we have a secure baggage area available in the Runner's Village free of charge.
What time should we get there?
Participants gather at the start line 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start time. There are plenty of activities to do in the Runner's Village pre and post races so we recommend 1 hour before your event starts.
Where can my family watch?
There are three spectator viewing places along the route, please see the map here. There are also lots of space along our finish line your family can cheer you on from.
The best view of the start/finish line will be from the VIP garden. You can buy spectator VIP passes here.
When will the results be posted?
The results will be available to view immediately on Event Chip Timing. The results will also be posted on the homepage of our website within 24 hours.
Who receives prizes?
Half Marathon - There will be a presentation of podium medals to the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female runners only.
5K - There will be a presentation of podium medals to the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female runners
There will also be prizes for the School Challenge and the SA Law Corporate Challenge!
Transferring and Cancellations
What happens if I can no longer attend the event?
We are unable to provide REFUNDS. You can TRANSFER yourself to an alternative ATW Event via the link on your confirmation email.
